Am I in Control of My Florida Adoption Plan?

Adoption is an emotionally challenging and daunting journey. There are so many steps and processes that have to happen in order for an adoption plan to be successful. This may create feelings of worry, anxiety, nervousness, and so much more for birth mothers looking for a smooth path when considering adoption. Although there are obstacles in the process, and you may think there are so many things in the way of your adoption, you are in control. Even if you may think that you’re not in control of your Florida adoption plan, you are. In fact, you probably have more control than you think.

Adoption Choices of Florida is here to help! We are an adoption organization that offers assistance for both the birth parents and adoptive family during the adoption process. We are dedicated to helping you with your adoption journey and making sure you are fully in control. We know that adoption is not an easy choice, and there is so much consideration you need to put into it, so we are dedicated to being here for you. We offer adoption services such as financial aid, help with medical care, housing, pregnancy support, and counseling. Most importantly, we guarantee to ensure that you are comfortable with the amount of control you have.

Your Adoption and Adoption Process in Florida

You are pregnant, and you want to give your newborn up for adoption. Whether it be a planned or unplanned pregnancy, whether you are in the middle of pregnancy, if you’ve already given birth to your newborn, or are anywhere else in the adoption process, you are the one who chooses the time and place for your Florida adoption

First, you’ll need to choose what type of adoption plan you want to have:

  • Open Adoption: when the birth mother has an open line of communication between herself and the adoptive family. If she chooses this option, she can receive regular updates about the child’s progress and even get together on occasions. Please keep in mind that open adoption is not the same as co-parenting.
  • Semi-Open Adoption: the level of communication between the birth mother and adoptive parents is less than an open adoption. They may receive updates in the form of letters or emails, but communication between both parties is limited. This will be negotiated through our adoption agency.
  • Closed Adoption: both the birth mother and adoptive family have no interaction and contact with each other. The birth mother still chooses everything within her adoption plan, excluding choosing the adoptive parents; however,, this is situational.

You can choose which type of adoption you want, and Florida Adoption won’t force you to choose the one you don’t want. We’ll be here to support whichever adoption plan you choose. However, most adoptions are semi-open and have some form of interaction between the birth mother and adoptive families. Still, no matter what your decision is, we’ll work with you to help ensure that your process goes as smoothly as possible.

Next, you should decide what type of adoptive family you want to have to raise your child. Think about all of the family types and who you want to raise your child. There are some questions you should think about when making this decision:

  • How big of a family do you want your child to live with?
  • What race do you want their adoptive parents to be?
  • Do you want your child living with other children?
  • Do you want your child living with pets?

You can consider these only a few questions, so don’t feel like you’re limited to them.

You are in control when it comes to matters with the adoptive family and adoption agency. You are not limited or forced to talk to them, and you can make your own decisions in the adoption process. You can decide how much you want to interact with the adoptive family. You can choose to have regular contact with the adoptive family and your child or none at all. The same applies to our agency, Adoption Choices of Florida. Even if you choose not to stay in contact with us, we are still here to help you with the finances, emotions, and the whole adoption process.
