Choosing a Florida Forever Family to Adopt Your Child

Written By: Erin Jones

In all adoption cases, there are many big decisions to make and many big moments to celebrate. When the time comes for a birth mother going through the Florida adoption process to choose an adoptive family for her child, this is both a big decision and a big moment for not only herself, but her child as well. Choosing the right adoptive family for your child can be both exciting and intimidating, which is why Adoption Choices of Florida has created a blog with a couple of tips to keep in mind when reviewing potential adoptive families.

Selecting an adoptive family is almost always going to be a nerve-wracking decision for a birth mother, but it doesn’t have to be as scary as some make it out to be. Just remember what’s most important to you and to trust your instincts! Only you know what’s best for your child!

Choosing Your Child’s Florida Forever Family

  1. Use Your Intuition

Strange as it may sound, your intuition is most likely going to be one of your best tools when deciding upon an adoptive family for your child. Depending upon which type of adoption you choose, you may very well get the opportunity to meet with potential adoptive families for your child.

You know when you first meet someone and you like them right off the bat, but can’t really explain why? It’s not uncommon for a birth mother to experience a feeling like that upon meeting the right adoptive family for her child. If you experience that feeling, or something similar during or after a meeting with a potential adoptive family for your child, trust that feeling. Your gut almost always knows what’s right and best!

  1. Consider What Preferences You have for Your Child’s Adoptive Family

Trusting your gut or your intuition can definitely be a helpful tool in choosing an adoptive family for your child, but don’t lose sight of any preferences you may have related to your child’s future adoptive family. If something is important to you, then prioritize it in your adoption plan and include it when listing preferences regarding your child’s adoptive family.

That said, don’t feel like you have to have preferences related to your child’s future adoptive family. Some birth mothers simply want for their child to grow up in a loving, caring home and that’s all that matters to them, which is OK too! Preferences regarding your child’s future adoptive family can be as broad or as specific as you want them to be.

What are You Looking for in a Florida Forever Family?
