If you’re become pregnant unexpectedly and are considering placing your baby for adoption, Adoption Choices of Florida is here to help! Going through the Florida adoption process can be challenging in so many ways, which is why we offer a variety of services and resources to assist you.
The main thing we want you to keep in mind is that choosing adoption for your baby is not a bad or selfish choice. In fact, it’s one of the most selfless things you can do because you’re choosing a better life for your child than you can provide, and you’re giving something precious to the adoptive family. Recognizing our own limitations is an important factor in making decisions that will ultimately benefit us in the long run.
Before you decide, it’s good to do research and assess how you feel about the different options available to you. Your choice might be affected by a variety of factors, like how your family or community feels, the father of the baby, your financial situation, or something else. However, we want to make it very clear that what matters the most is how YOU feel. It’s no one else’s choice but yours, and that’s why we’re here to help empower you to decide what’s best for you and your baby. If anyone is pressuring you to make a decision you don’t feel comfortable with, please contact us for the support!
One of the many benefits if you choose to work with us is that we will assign you an adoption specialist to help you every step of the way, including offering support after the adoption has taken place. We understand how important it is to have someone dedicated to you who will help you navigate the Florida adoption process. Your adoption specialist will answer all your questions and help you choose what type of adoption to go with. They can be as involved or as hands-off as you need. It’s up to you!
We also offer many resources and access to resources for pregnant women in different situations. That includes things like housing, financial aid, prenatal care, and more. We understand that many women who are considering adoption are often facing other struggles as well, which is why we make sure you’ll have access to everything you need throughout your pregnancy. If you’re homeless or about to become homeless, or if you need money for groceries and doctor appointments, or if you just have questions about the pregnancy process because it’s your first time, we’re there for you.
Even after the adoption has gone through, we have counselors on staff whom you can call for support. Many women find that it takes them months or even years after the adoption has gone through to process it, grieve, and get closure. This is completely normal. That’s why we offer these extended counseling services; we don’t want you to feel alone or like you have to forgo support just because the adoption has already taken place.
We strongly encourage the women who choose to work with us to consider all the practicalities of the Florida adoption process. Researching the process is important, as is working out a Florida adoption plan and a birth plan. Through the planning process, we’ll help you decide what kind of adoption you want, whether open, closed, or semi-open, what you’ll need both physically and mentally, and how to stay safe and healthy until the baby is born. We want you to feel prepared and ready to advocate for yourself and your needs.
What usually happens is that the adoptive family will be at the hospital for the birth and will leave with the baby. You’ll have 48 hours to sign the papers making the adoption official. You’re not obligated to let them in the room during the birth if you don’t want to, and in that 48 hours, you do have the right to change your mind. But once the papers are signed, it’s done, and you’ll be able to start moving forward and focusing on your own goals for the future. We understand how difficult it can be to choose adoption, which is why it’s a great idea to make goals and plan ahead. Doing this can help you through the grieving process and enable you to achieve things you might not have been able to do otherwise.
You can always reach out to us with questions. We only want to assist you in making the best choice for yourself and your baby! If you choose Adoption Choices of Florida, you’ll be in kind, compassionate hands. We’ll look out for you and help you every step of the way.
