4 New Year’s Resolutions for Birth Mothers

With the holidays well underway and the new year upon us, people have started making plans for the new year. For instance, how they are going to celebrate New Year’s Eve, family vacations, and New Year’s resolutions. For birth mothers, New Year’s resolutions are a little different. You have just gone through adoption in Florida, and you can still be feeling the emotions that come with post-placement and the holidays. Adoption Choices of Florida is here for you, and we have some tips and ideas for New Year’s resolutions to help you get back to more normal life and to cope with the feelings you are dealing with.

  1. Get Back to Your Hobbies

A good New Year’s resolution that you can try is getting back to your hobbies. Going through the Florida adoption process takes up a lot of time, and you put in a lot of time to create your adoption plan. You probably had to set some things aside and take a break from some of your hobbies to complete your adoption journey. This new year does your best to make time for your hobbies and get back to them. Your hobbies can help you get back to a more normal routine and life. Doing these hobbies will help you clear your mind and bring you joy since these hobbies are activities that you love.

  1. Build Your Relationships with the Adoptive Parents and Your Child

Suppose you are in adoption where you have communication with your child and the adoptive family, then a good New Year’s resolution you can do is build your relationships with them. It is important to remember that with your adoption, your child is still a part of your life, and you are able to create wonderful memories together. Doing things with your child and the adoptive family that you all enjoy will help you build your relationships with them and be able to see them more often. Seeing them and spending time with them will also help you cope with the feelings you are dealing with.

  1. Spend time with Friends and Family

With you completing your adoption journey, you now have more time on your hands. Another New Year’s resolution that you can do is make time to see your family and friends. Spending time with them can help you clear your mind, and you can live in the moment and create memories with them. You can also talk to your friends and family about the feelings you are dealing with. They are there for you, and they know your adoption journey took a lot out of you both physically and mentally. Your friends and family are here for you and will support you in any way that they can. These feelings you are dealing with are not easy to work through, especially on your own. Do not be afraid to ask for their help even when you are spending time with them.

  1. Work on Your Mental Health This Year

Again, going through the adoption process in Florida can be physically and mentally draining. The feelings that come with post-placement paired with the feelings that come with the holidays can be detrimental to your mental health. Your mental health is very important, and a good New Year’s resolution is to work on your mental health. There are many ways to do this, and you can do what works best for you. For instance, you can always contact us here at Adoption Choices of Florida, you can go to a post-placement counselor or use our free counseling service, or you can find a birth mother support group. Working on your mental health can help you get back to more normal life and help you feel happier in general and at peace with your decision to go with adoption in Florida.

Set Goals for Yourself and Embrace the New Year

Do your best to enjoy the holidays and the time you spend with your friends and family. If you are in an open adoption, where you are spending part of the holidays with your child and the adoptive family, enjoy the time you spend with them as well. After the celebrations, set goals for yourself heading into the new year. Settings these goals and hitting them will help you feel good about yourself and can help improve your mental health. Remember, if you ever need help and support, Adoption Choices of Florida is here for you, and you can contact us whenever you need to.
