Post-Placement Counseling and Birth Mother Support

We offer a variety of pre and post-placement adoption services for our birth mothers who may be experiencing an unplanned pregnancy at Adoption Choices of Florida, this includes post-placement counseling and support. Making the decision to place your baby for adoption can be difficult, which is why we seek to make this process as easy as possible for everyone involved. Adoption can be scary, but it does not have to be.

Where Do I Start in My Adoption Process in Florida?

The first step of the adoption process is to contact Adoption Choices of Florida via phone, email, or text. Then, your assigned adoption facilitator will help you develop your personalized adoption plan. Your adoption plan is a detailed plan for your adoption. Adoption plans specify information such as what kind of support you will need, what kind of adoption you would like, and who you want in the room with you during labor and delivery.

Your adoption plan includes the type of adoption you would like. There are three different types of adoption: open, semi-open, and closed. The type of adoption you choose will dictate the level of openness in your adoption. You will also decide who will adopt your child in your adoption plan. We provide you with a range of family profiles, and you choose your child’s adoptive family based on the kind of life you want them to lead and the kind of parents you want them to have. Additionally, your adoption plan will comprise the different types of assistance you will need. We provide financial, medical, housing, and supportive counseling assistance to all of our birth mothers.

What Kind of Support Does Adoption Choices of Florida Offer?

  • Financial Assistance is provided to all of our birth mothers who qualify. This assistance can range from money for rent and food to money for transportation and maternity clothing. Pregnancy is already physically and emotionally taxing; you should not have to worry about what you are going to eat or where you are going to live. Our goal is to eliminate or alleviate some of the stressors caused by pregnancy and the adoption process.
  • Medical Care is imperative throughout your pregnancy. We ensure that you have sufficient medical care during your pregnancy because the health of you and your baby is of the utmost importance.
  • We make sure that you have a safe place to stay during your pregnancy. You should not have to worry about shelter during this delicate time in your life. We offer safe housing for a myriad of reasons: you are concerned about your safety; you cannot afford decent housing;or you just do not want anyone to know about your unplanned pregnancy. All of these reasons are completely valid for requiring alternative living arrangements.
  • Supportive counseling is another service we provide to all of our clients during and after pregnancy. As mentioned previously, this can be a difficult time in your life; supportive counseling is available to mitigate some of the guilt or anxiety you may feel surrounding adoption. Our adoption counselors are available for all of your adoption-related needs and concerns. We offer three different types of supportive counseling based on your needs: one-on-one, support group, or birth mother retreats. No one type of counseling is better or worse than the other; you pick the best one for you and your specific situation.
    • One-on-one counseling is great if you want privacy and prefer to speak to one of our adoption counselors. You can express your feelings about your impending adoption and any fears you may have. You can discuss whatever you would like in a safe and secure environment.
    • Support groups allow you to connect with other birth mothers who may have gone through or are going through a similar situation. You can hear other women’s stories and find comfort in the knowledge that you are not alone.
    • Birth mother retreats are comparable to support group counseling, but you are allowed the opportunity to “retreat” from your everyday life. Birth mother retreats promote a sense of community among you and allow you to connect more deeply with the other birth mothers. Support group counseling and birth mother retreats are mediated by one of our adoption counselors.

In addition to your adoption plan, we supply an array of supportive counseling services and assistance to our birth mothers. We ensure that every part of the adoption process is addressed, so that you do not have to worry about anything. Our aim is to ease any stressors you may be experiencing around adoption and to make this experience as pleasant as it can be.
