Birth Mothers Who are They and Why Do They Choose Adoption?
Birth Mothers Who are They and Why Do They Choose Adoption?
Congratulations! You completed your Tampa adoption process and were able to create an adoption plan that meets your needs and that you thought was best for both you and the baby. The adoptive family you have chosen are happier than ever, being able to begin their lives as parents. You have made life-long connections with your adoptive family, the baby, and us here at Adoption Choices of Florida.
After the placement has taken place, it is common for birth mothers to feel sad. It is okay if you have this feeling. It is natural to feel sad after the baby’s placement with the adoptive family of your choice. Typically, once the placement has taken place, birth mothers experience a thought that comes to their mind My Child Is Not Mine Anymore. Again there is nothing wrong with you. If you have this thought, it is just natural to have this thought and have the emotions that you are feeling. There are post-placement services in place for you and other birth mothers if you are experiencing these feelings, and Adoption Choices of Florida is here for you!
One of the things that is available to you and other birth mothers are support groups. Support groups can be good because they can help talk to other birth mothers and hear from other birth mothers who have gone or are even going through the same thing you are going through. Birth mothers have said how finding a support group to talk to after the placement of their baby with the adoptive family has helped them heal and get back to a more normal life. It is okay if you need more than any support group. There is nothing wrong with looking for more help or a better option that suits you. At Adoption Choices of Florida, the free counseling that we provide you during your pregnancy and your Tampa adoption journey are still available to you after the placement of your baby with the adoptive family you picked. You will be able to schedule an appointment when you feel like you need it. Remember, you are not alone in this, and you have people who are here to help you, including us.
As mentioned before, if a support group is not for you, do not worry there are other options. One of these options is post-placement counseling. Now you may think about just talking to your Tampa adoption counselor that you worked with during your Tampa adoption. They are available to you after the placement has taken place, and they will check in with you periodically to see how you are doing. However, this is not the counseling we are talking about. You can see a post-placement counselor who specializes in helping you and others begin their healing journey. These appointments with a post-placement counselor are for you, and they care about you and how you are doing, and what you are feeling. Mental health is a very important part of the Florida adoption process, and it is even more important after the fact. You can always seek support from friends and family as well, but they will be limited in terms of how they can help you begin to heal since they could not know what you are going through. A post-placement counselor will have worked with other birth mothers before, so they will understand what you are going through and feeling. There is no need to be afraid, do not hesitate to express your feelings and talk about what you want and or need.
Another option that can help you begin healing is talking about specific topics and feelings that you are having. It is never good to keep all of this in and locked away because then you will have an even harder time healing. It can be hard to know what exact feelings you are feeling, and it is not uncommon. Below are some topics that birth mothers have said have helped them.
It is important to remember that you are not alone, and you do not have to deal with these feelings all on your own. You can reach out to support groups, friends and family, and us here at Adoption Choices of Florida. You have people that are here for you, so do not be afraid to reach out and ask for help.
